I would like to have automatic material assignment based on object/part file name.
We have many assemblies with many shared components. All this is managed in SolidWorks. For some particular reason our main KeyShot user cannot have direct access to our SolidWorks vault. So whenever geometry is needed for KeyShot, I get to convert it from native SW into STEP. This process maintains all filenames (which are hierarchical codes from R&D), but all color/material assignments get lost.
Our assemblies typically contain many configurations for differents lengths and heights of products. So we begin by importing a STEP into KeyShot. Then we do everything (setting up materials, EV...) to get a nice render-ready bip. Now, if we want to make renderings of the exact same product -only in a different configuration (f.i. longer and higher), we are forced to go through the entire process again: import new STEP, reapply materials...
It would be nice to see KeyShot apply materials automatically based on the file names of parts and/or automatically link parts based on file name.
greetings,
Dries
This is coming in KeyShot 3.1. It will be based on material names. It may not work for STEP.
