Title: Mauricio Ruiz Design - Concept Art, Character & Creatures
Post by: Mauricio Ruiz Design on June 21, 2018, 02:42:45 PM
Hi Everyone!

Check out this Flying Motorcycle Drone concept I've been working on. I had started it a while back and am finally getting back to it. I'll be flushing out the rest of the vehicle design, then throwing a pilot on it. I actually already designed the pilot standing and is the Black Suit Character I designed and posted previously here, so I just gotta bring the two files together.

Post more soon! Thanks for checking it out!!

Cool! Are you using Zbrush for the modeling?

Thank you!!

Yea, only ZBrush on this design.

Rendered out a turntable animation for the bike!

I'm just figuring out the best animation export settings. I believe the ticks are caused by exporting a video into Premiere, as Premiere does something with how the frames interact, causing some of the ticks.

I'll render out a turntable with the individual Frames and stitch them together, as I've read some of the Keyshot Admins here have suggested for several reasons. I'll try that next and upload the difference.

Here's another turntable!

This was the intended pilot for the flying vehicle.

Hi everyone!

I flushed out the legs. This is the foot extended position. The foot appendages are designed to clamp onto the side of buildings and can retract and expose a wheel while on the ground. There is also a more compact position when flying, tucking the legs up on it's side like a bird to make room for the flying gear.

I'll take one! A little dark in some shots, but the concept looks great. Look forward to seeing where you take this.

Thanks Josh!

Here are some more progress shots! This time the retracted appendages and extended wheel. Some influence from Ghost In The Shell Tachikoma's feet having wheels, but also functioning as feet, depending on the terrain. I also showed what the legs looked like tucked up on the sides while flying.

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to share something new I just created. It's an original concept / personal project:

To The Spawning Grounds Of The Grand Basin

The migratory challenges of the Mobulas, a genus of ray in the family Mobulidae found worldwide in tropical and warm temperate seas, as they travel to the spawning grounds of the Grand Basin; a massive Caldera surrounded by subterranean rivers, aquifers and lakes. The Mobulas can only mate once while they are young and small enough to navigate the meandering caves, often falling prey to predators. Reaching the spawning grounds is only half their journey, as they travel back out to sea, where they'll reach monumental proportions.

(Credit to BadKing for his ZBrush IMM Water Brushes that I used to create the water droplets / splashing water of the rays. Check them out here: https://www.badking.com.au/site/shop/organic-custom-brushes/splash-brush-set/ )

Lots of imaginative images here! Would be cool to see these brought to life in a film.

rembem Thank you for the feedback. I'm still learning much about my render settings, so I appreciate the motivation toward that end. I'm blurring the edges of each frame possibly some other features in the Image Styles. Is there something specific you think I can improve or just generally everything? Haha

Will Gibbons Thank you! I would love to see some of my concepts animated, even just a cool idle animation. So much more to learn! Haha

Hi Everyone!

I created this concept to showcase my new CREATURE KITS: Mandrill Teeth Kitbash Set! Still feeling my way through my render settings for stills and turntables. Any comments, critiques or tips are appreciated.

I started with the original Mandrill teeth (See Turntable), then segued into the creature you see here. Inspired by Japanese folklore creatures. (Yokai, Oni) I created these teeth sets to help other creature enthusiasts get more mileage from the time they have. Since these are existing animal teeth, altering them to create new teeth is a great foundation to start from.

Check out my Artstation store for more CREATURE KITS to come!

In Her Clutches

"Europa's inner ocean may be capable of supporting simple lifeforms. A proposed lander may go and look for them in the 2030's." - NASA / Goddard Space Flight Center

Finished a series of images inspired from Jupiter's frozen moon, Europa. The ocean floor integration fell really flat in these renders, as I've not usually had the opportunity to build out larger scenes, so that's something I'm addressing in future concepts. I used Megascan assets for the rock and a custom texture I made using the Quixel Mixer, but I'm still learning how to integrate textures appropriately in the Material Graph in Keyshot.

Any comments, critiques or suggestions are welcomed!

Thank you!!

In Her Clutches

Here's some turntables and images of one of my fish sculpts. This was heavily influenced by a group of soft-bodied, marine gastropod molluscs called Nudibranchs. They are magnificently colorful and unique, and there are about 3,000 verified species out there that we know of.

The Billowing Howls of the Lilac

I started this creature from my Creature Kits' African Lion Teeth & Gums set! I wanted to show how far these Teeth Kitbash sets can be changed unique ways.

Some ideas behind the concept -

Habitat:
Mygalomorph Bears dig a burrow in the ground that is lined with silk and a trapdoor that is difficult to see when it is closed because the plant and soil materials effectively camouflage it. The trapdoor is hinged on one side with silk. They use these burrows to raise their young and for protection. Burrows may reach 15 m in depth and around 1.5 m width. Some of the Mygalomorph Bears dig simple, tube-like burrows, while others excavate additional side tunnels for extra hiding places.

Reproduction:
Male Mygalomorph Bears leave their burrows in search of a mate during humid weather. The male dies shortly after mating with the female. The eggs are kept in the mother's burrow in a cocoon. After hatching, the Mygalomorph Bear cubs stay in the burrow for some time and eventually emerge to disperse and fend for themselves.

Here's some screenshots of myCreature Kit's African Lion Teeth & Gums set I sell on my Artstation store to help other creature designers get a head start by using existing animal teeth sets as a foundation to deviate from. Personally, I prefer to design my own concepts than use other people's Kitbash designs, but with these animal teeth, I am not the designer, so it's a great way to advance your creativity without introducing other artists work into your own.

Hi Everyone!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Rodan Final Approved 3D Concept

I was brought on to the Godzilla: King of the Monsters pre-production phase through Studio ADI to help design Rodan, King Ghidorah and Mothra. We ended up focusing on Rodan, after sculptor Tim Martin created an awesome maquette for Rodan based on some of the thumbnail silhouettes I had sketched up early in the design process. After 3D scanning his sculpture, I was tasked with redesigning and developing all the further iterations of Rodan's body (Wing variations, hand / claw variations, head variations, tail variations, color designs, scale designs and variations, fire / lava and debris designs, poses, etc.) all of which was a group effort in the design department consisting of Bryan Wynia who sculpted the wing texture in this final 3D concept, Ken Barthelmey, Miguel Gerrero, Justice Joseph, for a brief moment, Carlos Huante, and myself. The Sculpting Department included Tim Martin on Rodan and Adam Dougherty on Mothra, all supervised by Tom Woodruff Jr.

You can see the turntables on the Amazing Animations forum here: https://www.keyshot.com/forum/index.php?topic=21792.30

"NINKANDU" - Offspring of the Lady of the Blood

Offspring of NINKAN, the Queen / Priestess / Lady of Blood, but most commonly known as Lilith. One of the warring generals of her armies and royal guard. This massive creature appears on the battle field alone, a general with no army to lead, as its wrath and carnage slaughters all. Once the consumption of flesh reaches epic proportions, only the NINKAN can subdue it's rage. An army of one.

Part of an original vampire series of characters I've been developing. All made in ZBrush with some Keyshot love. Megascans surface for the stone floor.

More to come!

"NINKANDU" - Offspring of the Lady of the Blood

Here's a new creature concept I created. I tried to flush this out as fast as possible, and left all the tertiary (3rd) forms off, so this is rather rough, but I wanted to see how little I can put into these in a work environment and still get much of what I want out.

Offspring of NINKAN (Sumerian cuneiform translation), the Queen / Priestess / Lady of Blood, but most commonly known as Lilith. One of the warring generals of her armies and royal guard. This is the second war general, much more agile in motion. As with the previous general, appearing on the battlefield alone, eviscerating entire phalanx in stride.
Part of an original vampire series of characters I've been developing. All made in ZBrush with some Keyshot love.
