Hi All,
Again it's been a while since my last post, thought I needed to make some progress and keep myself in the know. This first post to reboot my render practice is from one of Esben's tutorials on material graphs esbenoxholm.dk/diy/ (http://esbenoxholm.dk/diy/). Found this super informative and realised the true potential behind the customisation.
Model from threedscans.com (http://threedscans.com/) again very cool use of stock models for playing with materials because of all the details.
Give me shout on any further pointers.
Nice work Jimmy. Great to see you back! Esben's tuts are great aren't they?
Ok back for more...this time with Keyshot 7. Loving the new features and added options. Still loads to explore.
A quick lunchtime render of a Mazda MX-5 from Viz People. Took a little playing with the geometry to sort out the lights but not too bad. With a little added Photoshop to make it more dramatic. Always hard to get a car looking right with a backdrop, may need to keep working on it.
Link here for free model: http://www.blog.viz-people.com/blog/free-3d-model-mazda-mx-5/ (http://www.blog.viz-people.com/blog/free-3d-model-mazda-mx-5/)
Here's another render test for the Mazda MX5. This time on a background image of the Silverstone Circuit (My home town). Using some Photoshop just to add motion to the image and the render having some motion blur option for the wheels. Just a low-res version for now but I'll work on a better image for later.
Higher res this time with a driver in the seat, which would make more sense :o
I have started to look into some vegetation models and came across this neat Mint plant in a pot. It is available with textures from here:
http://www.blog.viz-people.com/blog/free-3d-model-mint/
Doesn't look as good as the vray version in the preview yet but I'll get it there.
i think if you let it render a while longer and add a little more context to the scene rather than a plain background along with some DOF it will be on par with the vray render

Yeah I think so. This is just a screenshot which I left running. I'll need to find a nice backdrop maybe.
Found a really nice model of the Centenario. Felt the urge to render this beast. Very basic context but still quite effective. Must work on this a bit more.
Indeed. Nice model. I love that gray.
This time I managed to put in the effort to give it more context. The backdrop, which is from Maground.com, is a little low res but I photoshopped it a bit by adding some more contrast and sharpness. Let me know what you think.
As I was pondering the net for a model of a Google VR head set I came across sketchfab.com and they're array of free 3d scanned stuff. This gave me an idea to see if they work well in keyshot. I used a landscape scan and one of my scanned 3d people. The effect is really amazing with some camera f-stop.
I do like the background in the lambo shot, but yeah, a touch low-res. That green pops man.
Perfect work on the Lambo!I really like that body color. Is there any chance you can tell me where did you get the model?I really like to give it a try. :)

Thanks Hossein. I found it on Grabcad, Link below:

Currently working on some nature scenes, which makes a change from my normal Solidworks models for real work! It's quite satisfying to bring elements together from the likes of https://sketchfab.com/models/categories/nature-plants (https://sketchfab.com/models/categories/nature-plants) and https://megascans.se/library/free (https://megascans.se/library/free) to build a highly detailed scene. Still need ideas of where to go with this but it's looking cool.
First image: RAW render
Second image: Post Process PS
Very nice! I think you just need a focal point or some sort of narrative.
Feeling a little festive today with these little beauties. https://www.blankrepository.com/collections/raw-scans (https://www.blankrepository.com/collections/raw-scans) Gave me an entertaining lunch hour render. Maybe I was just hungry for some cookies! Nevertheless these great little 3D scanned cookies are great to look at.
Gave a maximum samples render for about 30mins.
And some depth of field.
First one is RAW keyshot, second is with some Photoshop filters.
That looks great! Maybe a touch burnt? But love that texture!
Cool! What's your go-to method for making piles like this. Just curious of everyone's approach.

Thanks Will, for this test I used blender with a simple setup and a slow gravity drop just to get some randomization. I will look at doing a workflow soon.

No problem! I do the same. Was just curious. Nice results.
Ok, first post of the year (Been working too hard and no time for spare renders) but nevertheless here is one using some textures from https://www.poliigon.com (https://www.poliigon.com) such a nice array of free textures suggested by the likes of http://esbenoxholm.dk/ (http://esbenoxholm.dk/) & the keyshot team.
Let me know what you think guys.
Lovely textures. At first, thought it may look interesting with the wall and floor textured switched. Light might be a little too hot.

Thanks Josh, Yeah I guess you could switch the textures round maybe have a wood paneled wall instead. The lighting I wanted a really warm feeling that only came from this light source, rather than environment.
I'm working a on new scene which is the opposite of this.
I really like the textures and the minimalistic approach. Individually it all looks really nice in my opinion. Maybe a tad hot light source, but that's already mentioned by Josh.
If I were to change anything, I would maybe consider changing the wall to something cleaner. Given the textures on both walls and floor, a cleaner and subtle textured wall would tone down the business and ease the scene a bit . Then again, it might come down to personal taste :)

This is really nice work on the Google VR scene. Did you use the "Daylight lighting" by the hour of the day or have you created a new light source?
About the lense depth of field, what was your reference point of aim? It looks like there are multiple areas that are blurred.

Thanks noham. Yeah I remember using a sun light source with a fairly warm colour to it. As for the camera blur, I focused on the corner of the wall just behind the guy.
The scene below is one I've been working on a bit longer for. I wanted to try and use as little light sources as I could for a gloomy feel. With a small touch of warm light from the ceiling light.
The room itself i modelled with an area light at the window and a curved plane on the outside for the backdrop. The other models where used from 3d sky.com. The render is initially a low resolution as I only let it render for about 20 minutes. Still needs some work but I will do a longer render soon.
Smooth. Love the table texture!
Ok so here goes. This time rendered for 360 Samples & touch of photoshop. The light has really come out so much more with the longer render this time. Starting to feel more real and atmospeheric ;D
Make sure to check out the Full Res Image!
Really, really nice mood, and I really admire the table material. You nailed gloomy, that's for sure!
Nice job, that table material is really good.
Mate, this image is amazing. I´m working my self some interior renders and your image really inspired me to go on working on it. I love the mood, and the interior light fits very well with the outside image. Congrats!! I´ve downloaded it to my inspirational folder images.
Beautiful. The way you handled the light in the last post is much better than before!

Wow Thanks Leo! Glad I could be the one to kickstart your work progression. Interiors are the most difficult renders I find to get right. Because there's always something that doesn't quite look like it's real enough. Aim for realism as much as possible. And lighting is always the main element for a nice render.

Sweeet! Thanks Will means a lot.
New post for #renderweekly on week 7. The challenge to only use simple geometric shapes to model a product. With childrens toys around the house I thought about modelling a simple toy train.
Making use of the material graph for a nice worn/used wood texture. Refer to Material Graph image for your own reference.

Love the colors! And the scratches are a nice touch. I really like that all of the parts have a different wood grain size and position.

A little hyperbolic, but I think this is the best interior render I've seen with Keyshot, really nice atmosphere and composition
Really nice render ;)
