hi there,
I am almost done with this and soon I will have a fully textured one. This has been a quite challenging one and on which I worked on and off in the last 2-3 months.
I recently moved and put together the scene in KS4 and I wanna thank Henrik for giving me the chance to test out KS4 and supporting me through this:) and to be patient enough to answer my questions. I will start here by posting gray renders of the final model....its all high res and the only thing missing here are the 2 peach fuzz hairs layers on the face and tshirt which will be included in the final color render.
cheers,
Marco
O-M-G > in reference to the modeling...
Dries
Might be time to trim the nose hair, but awesome model!
Very impressive :)
This is amazing. You have some serious sculpting skills man.
Incredible modelling!
thanks guys :) I am glad you like it (me :P )
Marco
Amazing work. Really looking forward to those final renders.
Speechless.
Can't wait to see the final.
Tim
thank you guys :)
here are some previews of whats coming :P
:o :o :o
This is going to be "most realistic rendering ever" stuff...
Crazy... in the good way. ;)
Dries
Stunning work!!
I think Hasselblad has serious competition! It's absolutely amazing what is being done with KeyShot by skilled and talented artists such as yourself- a real inspiration for all of us!
Bill G
For the next fiew renders you show, you might as well post real pictures, we won't be able to tell !! hahaha ;D
That is amazing work dude !
is this all modeled by you, or 3d scanned? Either way looks mindblowing! The nose hair is the icing on the cake (yuk :D )
This is insane! Kudos to you, looking forward to the full shot.
Where do you come up with these hideous creatures! Totally kidding.. ;D Superb job!!!
thanks a lot guys! hopefully I will be able to spam you guys with full face and lots of renders :P
and maybe post a making of. But anyway 95 % of the work is all manual sculpting , painting, grooming etc :)
cheers,
Marco
It would be really interesting for you to do a video tutorial of your process- I'd definitely like to learn more!
Just wondering and being curious...
Do you use KeyShot professionally? If so, in what stages of development/workflow?
Dries
hey DriesV, no I use it at home to render out my personal stuff (mostly digital sculptures) to a different stage of finish (most of the times I wont bother texturing them perhaps I just overpaint on them in PS). Having said that though I am trying to get KS at work where the art dept I think will benefit a lot from it when they need to conceptualize ideas for the clients , to pitch jobs etc.
In my case I just want to produce pretty pictures and I have always fascinated by 'realism' (even inthe traditional arts)...so KS is the best in the sense (and I have pretty much tried all the other software for work and not).
cheers,
Marco
Interesting...
Thanks for the explanation.

I'll light a candle to make sure that you get your copy. ;)
Dries
Amazing work evilmaul, this is making me even more excited for Keyshot 4.
Also is there any way we could get a look at your spec map if you get a chance?
Your work is awesome and incredible...you give a lot of reality to your works...!!
I would like to start with an organic face model render too.
What kind of keyshot material are u using?..
Aldo
I will post images of the WIP at some stage :)
I am just using the skin shader in the translucent material tab as starting point...then I tweeked it around a bit and plugged in the maps that I made for the head.
Fantastic !!
skin pore are coming from normal map or did you decimate te model in ZB ?
really inspiring
thanks.
The skin pore detail comes 80 percent from the pics I took of my face and the rest manual work in mudbox. What you see are render of the hi resolution sculpt exported straight from mudbox into KS.
Eventually I can render also a lower res mesh with dsp or normal map...actually the tests that I did initially in KS were done using a low res + normal map.
cheers,
Marco
If one day they'll release movies where you can imput your own head to the main characters body and it re-renders on the fly, you'll be getting academy awards .. you won't know where to stack them ;D
Speechless to be honest.
This is scary real. :o
It's a keeper
Tim
thank you guy...and sorry if I havent posted anything more about it....talk to Henrik about that :P
in the meantime I went ahead and will make an alternative self portrait...based on a star wars character (u can guess it easily by my nick name) and which i fell in love since it came out.
Now with the announcement of the new Star Wars and having sir Iain McCaig around , the original designer of that character, I thought I can turn myself around in something a bit different :P
started by sculpting a facial expression more appropriate for that character :D
cheers,
MArco
PS: this is not a render though just a mudbox screenshot of the hi res mesh I am still sculpting with all the wrinkles and stuff
You, sir, are the master of wrinkles.
haha as a plastic surgeon I would fail miserably ;D and make a lot of ppl unhappy
slowly building this alternative selfportrait. Once again I started by taking pics of me making this for of rage expression and generated a rough mesh of which you can see an already cleanup version (mudbox) rendered in keyshot with different materials just for fun.
Then the mesh I had done before has been sculpted back in Mudbox retaining all the hi frequency detail but adding extra detail in terms of wrinkles , compression and stretching skin, shift of volumes(muscles and skin over the bones bla bla bla) ....you can see a video here of the final neutral to expression (although I still have to do some work on gums and teeth)

I hope you've archived the entire process because a DVD or tutorial needs to be made here.
and here are finally few renders (of the many) that I can share with you :)
will spam you guys later with more :D
Yep - definitely the best "skin renderings" I've seen! Awesome job!

Agreed! ;)
Plus, I think we all want to see a turntable animation... ::)
Dries
Beautiful Marco...
The renders, not you ;)
Did you paint those hi-res texture maps or do ILM have facial scanners now ?
J
thanks guys!
this is my personal project and has absolutely NOTHING to do with work.
No scanner or ICT technology involved....all artisan stuff
Amazing work indeed Marco. Looking forward to working with on pushing this even further :)

Turntable animation and KeyShotVR, please.
thanks guys and Henrik for your support :)
here are another couple of renders.
Okay, it's crazy good, alright... :)
Dries
Amazing!
KeyShotVR!!!!!!
haha Thomas you guys have to do it down there... I have a stupid machine at home :)
Sure - do we have the final bip file?
I can send you another Dvd
Breathtaking - I'm speechless.. :o
Use keyshot.wetransfer.com and send it to me directly. Make sure to send it over as a .ksp file. Looking forward to it!!!
I can't wait to see this...
I hope Luxion has some serious network rendering farm that renders a HD VR in a breeze. ;D
Dries
:) +1 for the KeyShotVR with controls for interactive skin translucency... ;)
This is incredible. Speechless.
Truly inspirational work!
Great work!
thank you so much guys for the positive feedbacks. I stopped working of this for a while but yesterday I thought of giving it another shot...a different shot :P
A real badass!
But where's the profile shot and placard? :D
Dries
What were you in for Marco? ......Misdemeanors I'm sure
but seriously, really amazing
Ed
He was apprehended for 'Rendering with the intent to amaze' ;)
Busted for a drive-by KeyShooting.
Bill G
Biomechanic is dead? Long live The Metal Master!
Lol, made me laugh that did... and on a day like this I need it.
Cheers
J
Looks like youv got a back story now too...

Haha, you got a big LOL out of me :D
Amazing Sculpt and map. Beautiful details and textures as well:D
The results you achieved between mudbox and keyshot are amazing.
However it seems not good enough for the developers of keyshot to create a plugin between the two, despite the interest of them in your posts...
When do we get some love from you in mudbox?
amazing like always Marco! bravo! ;)
Amazing work!
I don't see any bruises on the face :)
Abed

Wow very nice work...but is this from a scan right?.. ;)..would like to see some zbrush total sculpt with same result..i think will be good
hey so what did you use for the hair?
slater
...if you read all of my posts in this thread you would know what and how the head came about to be....but apparently you're too lazy to read and quick to come up with a conclusion. I wont even bother try to explain.
andryjonescreative...what do you mean? how I did create the hair or which shader I used for them?

However don't worry i will never ask you anything..i don't like Presumptuous as you ..sorry
Hey Slater;
I know you're too busy to read all of this thread, so just check out Marco's short video which he posted about half-way through. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151679232200101&set=vb.572780100&type=3&theater (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151679232200101&set=vb.572780100&type=3&theater)
Also check out his amazing renderings of his "Dead Christ"- now that would be one very difficult scan! In fact, it would be a Miracle. But you'll have to take the time to search it out in the Amazing Shots pages. Several months ago...

Thanks Speedster,
i'm just reading, and seeing at the link and also at the thread forum. Well, if i asked is because i didn't find the answer or maybe i missed it on reading thread.I know he is a great Artist, but sometime courtesy is the first rule, and for sure he has not ..i'm sorry for that; can be a Master , but the way Evilamau answer , is not good, and i saw same his treatment to other threads on here.
Btw, i will not ask other; Thanks for your courtesy and answer Speedster.

yeah i was just wondering what you used to make the hair? Looks boss. if you want to share any shader info that would be just gravy.
facial hair was done in maya using simple geometry and mostly hand posed and shaped in place one by one (yes it has been very time consuming process)
shader wise its nothing special again just translucent shader with a very low translucency..no texture no nothing. They are just separated in 2 groups black and grey hairs.

Marco, there's a product out there called "Just for KeyShooters"!
Bill G
haha Bill....thats a good one :)
