Title: Playing around with leather
Post by: jet1990 on October 28, 2015, 07:53:46 AM
Hi all,

Just been messing about with some leather textures downloaded from the keyshot cloud.

nothing majorly awesome, just trying to develop skills. I added an area light to a sphere in the lampshade but i was strugglign to create a material using the advanced option that would allow some light to come through. The backdrop is a ramp loaded in as geometry with a a matt paint.

Lights are the standard 2 panels with a highlight. What do you recommend for a studio style light setup?

For this one I would say that you shot bring in some black areas (if there aren't any yet) to you HDRI to create some contrast in the materials. Maybe also add a bright pin to create some clearly visible highlights.

Great start. You could try to move the lamp a bit to the left or right for a better composition. It doesn't look to good there in the dead center of the chair :)

Don't forget to add a material to the base of the red chair!  And I agree, move the lamp over.  I've found that leather is tricky, but physical lights can really make the material pop.

Yep! interested to see where this goes. Leather is tough in my own experience.

1289.jpg seems most natural as a new sofa set from a showroom  ;)
