Title: Measured - new material type
Post by: Despot on June 20, 2016, 11:45:32 AM
Came across this new material type whilst using 6.2 (see screendump)

It looks like you can use BSDF data (see link) that's compiled in .XML format

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidirectional_scattering_distribution_function (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidirectional_scattering_distribution_function)

Found a bunch of these  .xml BSDF files online, from a company that produces window glazing software (I think) and the particular .BSDF dataset I've used for the render is apparently used for window blinds - it's name is 'Satine 5500 5%, White Pearl'.

Tried it on a solid object and it looked rubbish, but on a piece of cloth dumped out from Marvelous Designer I get the following result. It's really noisy, but perhaps this material type is still being worked on... anyway, perhaps these could be used in interior scenes, blinds, curtains etc.

Perhaps somebody at Luxion could shine some light on this... pun intended ;)

Correct - right now it only support the AXF format from Xrite.

It supports both Radiance BSDF format and the AXF format from X-Rite.

The material type is only available as an experimental feature and may be quite noisy as you also noted. We will improve this in the future.
