The close up looks sweet! Is the light reflection part of the hdri or an actual light?

Very cool! Next step, get that paper to look less flat! Can you try modeling it?

A displacement map should do the trick

I added some pleats on the newspaper.

Looking real nice! Unless the officer suffers from OCD, I would rotate the cigarette a little, so it isn't perfectly aligned with the writing in the newspaper.  :D

looks way better now,I have to say that label you used on the glass and newspaper pleats were really necessary , help the scene look even better than before!
I disagree with chad about the cigarette being aligned with the lines , the way it stands is not impossible!  :)

+ 1 for the OCD
It is late to the officer and he needs help to read. So he uses the cigarette to follow the lines. ;D

A couple of things...

The newspaper is too shiny still, as I can see a bit of reflection on the bottom left. You'll never see a reflection on a newspaper because it's so soft and textured. I'd suggest more of a diffuse material perhaps, or texturing it some more. It looks a bit flat too. Have you tried using a large procedural noise texture with a very tiny bump value? Lastly, I think the bokeh/DOF is a bit strong. To get that much, the background would need to be quite far away.

Really nice progression on this so far!
