Title: Advanced render options: Samples affect globally?
Post by: guest86847 on August 07, 2016, 03:09:19 AM
Hi there,

In Keyshot Pro 6.2 there you have a samples setting in the advanced render options.

Does this sample setting override all other sample setting you made in your scene? For example you set up some rough plastic materials and area lights and set their samples to 16. But in the advanced render you chose samples of 4. So, which sample settings does Keyshot apply then?

Hey Armill,

A rule of thumb is that material samples override global samples. So if your scene in general doesn't need a lot of samples, but one (or some) materials do, then it is generally a good idea to have relatively low global samples (8 to 16) and increase the samples for the individual materials.

There is a good in-depth explanation of samples in this webinar at around 41:28...

I hope this helps.
