Title: Selectively turn off cast shadows for floating geometry.
Post by: OccultMonk on October 16, 2016, 10:16:50 AM
Is there a way to turn off cast shadows for certain objects? I use a lot of floating geometry for example for indented screws. This is "faked" geometry, so these objects should not cast shadows. This is a very important feature to me.

IMHO it can be quickly solved with two renders (shadows on / off) and then use a graphic tool with two layers and some mask or eraser work.
quick and dirty.

Hey OccultMonk-

I've got a Material Graph node network for toggling cast shadows on/off. Check out my forum post here: https://www.keyshot.com/forum/index.php?topic=13052.0 (reply #3).

Okay Eric, you're right. I forgot the surface backside mask. That would help.

Eric

Does that only work for area lights or also HDRI? I tried it but it does not seem to affect HDRI shadows.

Yes, it should affect HDRI shadows if set up correctly.
