Title: Emitting light through marble veneer
Post by: R_I_L_E_Y on October 20, 2016, 03:40:38 AM
Hi guys,

I'm design a pendant light that uses an OLED light panel sandwiched between two thin marble veneers but cannot seem to get the marble texture right so that the light emits through the veneer.

I have made the light panels an area light diffuser and have tried applying a marble texture to several different material option for the marble, using different transparencies however cannot get the desired effect.

The effect is similar to that of a Lee Broom marble light - see attached.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Riley

Hi Riley

I'm not sure if this is helpful or not, but I did a quick scene trying out what you describes.
Grab it here and check out the setup: https://we.tl/TPgF5LxwRb

Not sure if it's the best possible solution, so if anybody is up for it feel free to improve the scene.
Lighting through translucent materials is a tough one.
