Title: IS THIS MACHINE GOOD ENOUGH???
Post by: igorko24 on December 29, 2016, 08:12:50 AM
Hello guys,

My first post - and I already have a question. Im planning to buy this machine - and would need your opinion on it - is this good enough to for rendering on K5?

Sun Oracle X4800 M2 - 128 x 2.13GHZ

8 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E7-8830 - 128x2.13(z toho 64 jadier 128 vlákien)(24M Cache, 2.13 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel® QPI)
128 DIMM slotov - maximum 2TB RAM
8 x pozícia pre 2.5\" HDD SAS/SATA
8 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports
8 x 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports
4 x SAS2 ports

4 x PCI Express ExpressModule:
Quad-port Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express x4
• 10 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
• Dual-port quad data rate InfiniBand
• Dual-port 8Gb/sec Fibre Channel plus dual-port Gigabit Ethernet
• Eight-port SAS-2
For system management operations, the AST2100 uses the following connections:
• UCP port, supporting one VGA interface, two USB ports, and one serial console connection
• One RJ-45 RS-232 serial interface for console redirection
• Two RJ-45 10/100 MB/sec Ethernet network interfaces for IP-based management connections

Thanks for advice.

You are talking to people with mostly single/double processor machines here, personally at home I have a single CPU 6 core i7 3.5Ghz, and at work I have a HP Z600 series dual proc at 2.1GHZ.

So, yes  your machine will do just fine. Keyshot render power is scalable, more processor threads, faster renders. Simple math.

Also begs to question, good enough for what? What kind of renders are you looking to do? what sizes?

Also would be interesting to hear how you got your mitts on a machine like that :)
