Title: Brand New to Keyshot, not sure how to do this?
Post by: TDF on February 20, 2017, 01:01:12 PM
okay, trying Keyshot for the trial period, (MODO user), not sure how to get an image mapped to a piece of geometry... normally I would use a UV, but I didn't see anywhere in Keyshot where I can create or export a UV?

here is an example, I have a piping spool that I want to show a weld bead on, I would normally create a flattened UV of the bead geo. than export the UV to PS, create the normal map, import into MODO and map to the mesh.

Not sure what the KS workflow is for this type of thing. of all the tutorials I watched I didn't see and "UV" workflows..??

Unfortunately, at this time, KS doesn't have UV mapping tools. You can use UVs as the mapping method for your textures, but that only works if you have already "UVed" your geometry in your modeling application. Hope that makes sense.

yes, I have the model UV'ed in MODO, does that help? My draw to Keyshot at the moment is the VR aspect, although I will probably purchase Keyshot and the VR add-on.

if I back out my model in MODO, will VR allow me to import a already textured model to produce the VR?

Hi TDF

If your model is already UV-mapped in modo and you have the uv-mapped texture, the process should be pretty straight forward.

1. Export your model from modo (I think that obj and fbx should work fine).
2. Import your model into KeyShot.
3. Apply your texture to your material (diffuse, bump, roughness, etc.)
4. Change mapping type to 'uv coordinates' (see image)

Hope it helps you in the right direction.
Best,
