Title: Render Network Setup: Server vs. network desktops
Post by: gilty on February 27, 2017, 11:18:03 AM
Hey all - Network Render noob here,

I am looking to create a Network Render capability and would like some recommendations for how to set up a 32 core network and the pros/cons of using a server versus multiple desktops.
My homework says that a dedicated server would be the best solution, since it could be reserved for rendering and wouldn't need to perform any other tasks like a networked workstation may be subject to. As well as being able to control the number of  cores available at all times, as well as being to upgrade cleanly as needed.

Has the Network software been created with a preference of either of these scenarios? Does it perform better in one than in the other?
Thanks -

Fewer nodes and more cores per node always give better performance:
- faster render speed per node
- less data transfer between nodes.

I hope this helps.
