Title: Test Bench for Microgears
Post by: bentiger on May 12, 2017, 06:05:56 AM
Hi all,
Thats a test bench for micro gears in my university. My first render, where i tried some scene compositing and adding additional lights. Would be great to get some feedback on this!
Thanks for your help. :)

Looks great, the labels really make it look good. My only comment would be that I've never seen a test bench that clean :) To up the reality of it, that table needs a load of micrometers, wires, twinkie wrappers and other cruft scattered around!

The other thing I just hit on that I'm going to use in pretty much every render i can is the depth pass and using the DOF lens blur in photoshop. Here's the youtube video to explain it, its not as straight forward as you think it should be, but it works great and adds some great dimension to the renders.

Looks great!  I've done a number of inspection benches for medical device stuff, and CLEAN is the bottom line.  The surface plate is spot on for a Standridge custom granite plate, and the inspection cert and label really makes it real.  However, I note that many of the goodies are missing the screws that fasten them to the threaded inserts in the ungodly expensive custom plate.

Thanks for your help so far! I made a little tour on GrabCad and modeled that paper to get the test bench a little more messy.
Because i do not have photoshop, i have tried some stuff with the camera options in Keyshot, but i don't have good results here yet. Can other (free) software do the job?

Yes Speedster, i have forgotten the actual price of the granite plate but i heard, that it was very expensive.

edit: Just noticed, that I've messed up the label of the right clamping piece...Going to repair it in the next iteration...

Yep, to my eye at least that looks a lot better. especially the printouts, nice touch.

I'm more of a MAc guy only recently moved to PC, so I'm not all in on the alternatives, but I hear that GIMP is a good alternative to photoshop, and there are probably a slew of others. On the mac side Pixelmator was my goto for anyone looking for 80% of what most people were looking for in photoshop.

Looking great all around!

I did not get GIMP to importing the exr-File but did the blur with a trial version of photoshop. Not sure if i like it more than the one not blurred.

Some more changes in the scene set up and lighting and rendered in higher resolution.
