Are you using physical lights in the scene?

No, there is only light from the environment.

IMHO some simple steps would reduce this.
- uncheck global illumination and caustics
- reduce ray bounce to 2 or 3
- don't use any glow effect
- zoom to the area with the effect and let the live render run for a while
  - If this solved the issue use max sample mode for render. The heads up display will give you hints for the right value. Or use a max sample rate of 250 and stop the render if you're happy.


And if this doesn't help, change the sample value from the material.
