Title: Performance loss during long renders
Post by: parodbd on May 03, 2011, 01:44:17 PM
Keyshotters,

During long renders (24 hours or more) my CPU will tend to drop from 80% usage to 30% usage.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  I am using a 17" Macbook Pro 2.8 Ghz Core 2 duo, 4 gb ram, Mac OSx 10.6.7.

It seems to happen once the processor reaches a high enough temperature.  This issue is causing my renders to take a lot longer than neccessary.

Thanks for any input,

-Brandon

Is this the "auto-throttle" where your CPU will throttle back to reduce the heat ?  I think this has nothing to do with KS, but more with cooling ... in which case it should get worse during summer ..

We have the same issue (KS 2.3.2 on Windows 7 x64).
We render complete cranes and as more it's going to the end, as less processor capacity gets used. The jump from 99 to 100 % sometimes takes an hour or more.
