Title: Screw
Post by: fa2020 on October 01, 2017, 12:22:03 PM
Hi
I modeled this in SW and rendered using Keyshot.
The dimensions are real and the object is ready to be machined.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Nicely detailed. I think it has more cast look than machined however. I'd suggest re-texturing for some very thin, subtle tool lines. This one is brass (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71mAVR8WkqL._SL1430_.jpg) but you get the idea.

Yep, for these objects, you usually need to separate the machines and cast surfaces so they have different materials. the threads are cut, therefore shiny, and the hex is a little rougher than the threads, then the body would be rougher. I worked in  a hydraulic hose factory for part of my youth, and became very familiar with pnuematic and hydraulic fittings like this. They are very interesting little studies for material and lighting.

The only other note I'd make, and this is totally my personal opinion, is to not use such a wide angle lens. I usually default mine to 50mm, as that takes away much of the distortion of the objects. BUt like I said, that's just my preference. I have a love of the look that longer lenses give, that comes from 15 years of shooting video.
