Title: Hotpixel - any chance to avoid them ?
Post by: Mario Stockinger on February 13, 2018, 10:39:32 PM
I'm rendering indoor images from production plants with panorama setting to use them in Krpano.
Krpano is converting the render image so it fits in a sphere.

I tested 20k x 10k with 64 samples / 10k x 5k with 128 samples (With self shadow)
Depending from the scene - an image takes around 12hours to complete in our render farm (64cores)

I want to use self shadows to create a more "realistic" look.
But with this options i have to add lights to the building - otherwise you won't see a thing.
And as soon as you use self shadows - the material roughness has a very big influence and Hotpixel can occur.

It doesn't help only to use textures for the bump map instead of roughness.
Increasing the resolution and samples even more - rendering would take forever - especial the NW Render is not so stable.

Is there a way to combine self shadows with product mode where you don't need lights or do you have any advise that could help ?

We use stainless steel , microblasted that has very special diffuse look.
