Title: Physical Light Controls
Post by: DMerz III on January 11, 2019, 11:14:51 AM
Hello again everyone,

Came across this video which demonstrates the new light widgets within Blender 2.8 (Beta).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ICf9MgGt1Y

I think they've done a great job developing an intuitive UI approach to control lamps. If you watch the video, you'll see what I mean.

I'm thinking something similar to what they've done here could be helpful for area lights/spotlights in the future, perhaps controlled in the geometry view? I really love the ability to drag and adjust 'the target' of my area lamp, or just having a 'plumbline' from the center would be great. Also the 'cone' dragging on the spotlight is a very cool way to adjust the angle of the cone.

Hopefully, this inspires some ideas!

Yep, looks really smart and easy to use. Cinema has the same sort of controls, and makes aiming and focusing lights easy. This would be a great help in KS, especially that I'm using the Geometry view more and more along side the main view. Its so handy to have the camera stick where it is, and have another view available to navigate around the scene and move things.

A 'Set highlight' option for physical lights would also be very nice!
