Title: render layer functionality to be updated
Post by: PerFotoVDB on March 18, 2019, 02:39:40 AM
Hi guys,

I tried out render layers but I am disappointed with it.

1. KS still renders the main image and then the render layer. Why not only the render layers or the layer I select, I have no choice here?
2. Main render outputs a 16-bit psd, like I have set up. However, the render layers only output a png. I would expect to a. be able to choose the output format for the layers or b. at least that the render layer follows the main render settings I have set up.

Does anyone feel the same on how simple this system is but what potential it could have?

Cheers
Per

Make sure you check the "add to PSD" box in your  output settings. By doing that, your render layers will be saved as part of a layered PSD file instead of being separate PNG files. If your PSD is set to 16 or 32 bit, then your render layers will be too as it will all be one file.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I use this functionality already in my stills workflow but in animation, this just isn't an option.

You didn't ask about or mention animation in your post.
