Title: If anyone has the new Mac Pro
Post by: figure1a on March 09, 2020, 10:19:22 PM
please go to the Benchmark Forum https://forum.keyshot.com/index.php?board=36.0 (https://forum.keyshot.com/index.php?board=36.0) and let us know what kind of FPS you can get. Thanks! I tried at the Apple store today but they would not let me install Keyshot.

Aren't they configurable? So you would get different results based on what hardware you choose.

Also - just curious - why Apple for rendering? You'd get a better value/performance ratio by not choosing apple - also not going to be using GPU mode if you have an AMD card (Apple).

Ugh, as a life long Mac user, its so very apparent these days that for raw power Mac ain't the way to go unless money isn't an option. And even then, if you are looking for the fastest, the most maxed out Mac tower won't get you there either.

Love the OS, love the ecosystem, love the environment. Hate the ego.

As I have said here before, I love my new MacBook Pro. I use it for everything BUT KeyShot...

Yes, they are configurable. When people post to the Benchmark Forum, they also post the specs of the machine.

Just curious on what the new MacPros can do on the rendering front since you can spec them up to 28 core. Just built a 32 core 3970x Threadripper so I want to see how it compares to the new Mac Pro since I come from the Mac world.

 :D Ahh I see - In that case - I'd also be curious - $ for $.

I am eyeing a 3970x build myself - how do you like yours?

So far amazed. Only had it a week but it's about a $5,000 build and comparing specs to specs it's equal to a $16,500 28 Core Mac Pro build. Getting 750FPS with the keyshot benchmark file using the CPU. That's why I so want someone to post a 28 core Mac Pro benchmark to see how the two different processing platforms compare. I also put the RTX2080ti GPU in there and it seems to be about the same speed as the 3970x CPU. With the 2080ti in Adobe Premiere, I can play 8K RED RAW footage (no proxy) in real time with no dropped frames/lag/stutter. I'm a Mac guy so I'm super impressed so far with this machine.

:o Ohhhh my. That sounds amazing! What motherboard did you go with? Also did you go with Liquid cooling? How much ram?

HAHA - any chance you can just send me your part list!?  ;)

figure1a - now that it's been a little while are you still a fan of your build? Any issues?

Hows the AIO cooler handling the high loads?

I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger and the MB and Cooler are the big questions for me atm.

Thanks for your insights!

So far so good. For me, just getting used to windows. Machine can run with all 64 cores processing for hours and the cabinet that I keep the tower in does not get hotter than 90˚F—I do vent out the side of the office. I don't overclock anything and the cooler runs at stock settings.

Never mind on the Mac Pro test requests. I've seen enough numbers in the Geekbench numbers to see that the Threadrippers just kill the Xeon-W processors. $5K threadripper machine vs. $18K not even a contest. Not to mention no RTX for Mac.

Just put in my order for the 3970x literally 2 hours ago  ;D
