Title: Having the light effect from a backdrop but without its appearance in rendering
Post by: TaChunHuang on August 06, 2021, 12:19:27 AM
Sorry, been asking lots of questions recently...
I was wondering if it's possible to have the light effect from a backdrop but without its appearance in rendering? The reason is I would need a transparent background for the product that I am working on, but the product would appear too dark without the light reflection caused by the backdrop. Any clues? Thanks very much!

To get an effect similar to a backdrop for fill light, you could try using an area light where your backdrop would go. Set the power of the area light a couple of stops lower than your key light, and disable "visible to camera" and "visible in reflections".

Or you could add the image you want the reflections of to your HDRI. That might also work.
