Title: Multiple configurations/ states of the same model?
Post by: Imz on January 14, 2013, 03:47:43 PM
Hi Guys,

I have a product with about a hundred parts and I'm trying to do some setups for cutaway/ ghost models...

Other than to save multiple versions of the file, is the way I can save multiple states within the same file? ie. Open, closed, hidden housing, etc.

That would be super helpful rather than starting from scratch each render session.

The best way of achieving this is by duplicating the model in the scene, and then treating the various states that way. Then just toggle the "state", or better, model you need on and of. If you need hidden part per configuration, simply delete them.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Thomas, that's pretty much what I've been doing.

Is there a time penalty to having hidden parts in a scene when rendering?

No, there isn't. We addressed this quite some time ago.
