This is my test try to make patina. I used 2 layers of 1 mm from each other. Bottom layer material is gold. For the top layer, I used the transparency map. Maybe someone knows a better way to do this?

You might want to test layers more like 0.25 mm or less?  Then, if seen on an angle, there would be less shadow distortion.

Image in the first post is render without any post-production. Two pictures in second post - photos. Trick with two layers nice works when I have simple surfaces. But if I have a lot of complex surfaces? I will need to duplicate each. Not very convenient.

It would be better to have 2 layer material.

Don't forget- Each layer has two surfaces, and you can UV map each side of each layer.  2 layers = 4 surfaces.
