Title: Normal maps
Post by: number12 on April 09, 2013, 09:20:12 AM
Hi Guys, just wondering what you'd recommend to use for generating normal maps to use in Keyshot? Thanks.

Most of the time you don't need a normal map. Simply apply the actual image, and KeyShot does the conversion behind the scenes.

As far as normal mapping tools go, there is a plugin for Photoshop, and dedicated texture creation application like filter forge and crazy bump.

Thank you Thomas, appreciate your answer.

I was really unsure as to which method was best to use if you do need a normal map (i.e. crazybumb/Photoshop filter etc) which would give the best results?

I've been very pleased with normals (and other stuff) created in Filter Forge.  Great app!
