Title: Precious metal valve insert
Post by: DriesV on April 12, 2013, 07:24:22 AM
A very expensive version of a radiator valve insert. ;D
Just trying out studio lighting on highly reflective cylindrical metal objects...

Btw, the real thing has a turned & milled brass body, steel spindle and a PP plastic cap.

I know something, you don't half love your electric blue backdrops...  ;)

Well I have a few that I cycle through, but blue makes a great match for yellow gold. :)

Yes it does compliment it quite well  :)

The only thing I would suggest is adding a slight, almost imperceptible roughness to the chrome as even highly polished new surfaces have some degree of age...

John, I actually tried a very slight roughness, as little as 0.001. However, even such low roughness blurred the striped reflections too much for my taste (for this image...).

For these sort of images I actually prefer a more 'Vectorial' look. :)

Hi Dries, yes I see what you mean - it looks cool...

In fact you've set me off rendering metal things again - I must have some Magpie genes floating around inside me...

Do you mind if I post an image to your thread ?

As long as we're talking precious metal ordinary things, all is OK. :D
