Hi !
Here are early renders for my personnal project of a new watch inspired by the Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept. (http://www.gotbroken.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/2012-Renault-Alpine-A110-50-Concept-Rear-Side.jpg (http://www.gotbroken.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/2012-Renault-Alpine-A110-50-Concept-Rear-Side.jpg))
I love the new procedural texture which helps me to fine tune the paint work giving depth and reality.
The plug in and live linking on Solidworks 2013 works really well too :)
Hope you'll like the results... others will come
Ben :)
one with small DOF
Looks nice! Keep em coming! You might want to map the edge of the strap just so you can get more control over the pattern direction and flow. Also, try posting at 1200 wide, which is a really good size for the forum as the whole image shows without scrolling around.

Thanks Speedster for you advices, I'll take care on these details next time ;)
Yeah, round watches are so boring and there are so many of them. We should have more of this kind!
Totally agree with you Philippe ! Even if my Diesel watch is round :P
Thanks for your comment ;)
Yeah, so is my Seiko .. it's just that, unless I win the jackpot, as long as it works, there's no need to buy a new one .. but if I would, I would buy something futuristic, something different and sure nothing round :p
I like those consept watches that use led-dot-patterns which you kinda need to decode to be able to know what time it is.
If you really win the jackpot you can go and see the manufacturer Urwerk... there are some 'small' watches @ 300 000
;D
I will ... but then I should first star to play the lottery :P
Love this design Ben. I'll take one!! The textures, details, all of it is looks great and the DoF version is just poppin!
Josh
@Philippe : Sure ! 100% of winners had tried to win like we say ;)
@josh : Thanks mate :) Glad you like my work... I always try to push the details in my 3D model, it gives more depth when we switch to the renders ;)
Other ones are calculating, when there are done I'll post them ;D
Awesome details and shaders!
@Fractalife : Thanks mate :)
Here are some low res renders in addition to the first ones.
High res are available on my grabcad page (+ the cad) : https://grabcad.com/library/renault-alpine-a110-50-concept-watch-1 (https://grabcad.com/library/renault-alpine-a110-50-concept-watch-1)
Benjamin, these looks great! You are an ar-teest ;-) Really, great work!
Very cool!
Fabulous design and presentation! Color scheme is awesome!
But I have one question. Have you prototyped and tested the case design and shape in application on the wrist? I ask because I have a favorite "old pawn" turquoise Native American bracelet that I wear all the time. It has a similar elongated shape, and is a similar size. I find that the elongated shape really restricts wrist and hand movement, especially upward. But I love it, so I deal with it.

@Josh, Chad & Bill : Thanks for your nice comments ! I'm really happy to read that you like my work... :)
@Bill : My first goal was to find some shapes and proportion that could match with the original concept car ('design' or 'styling' work essentially)... and unfortunately I didn't prototype nor manufacture it (yet ?). I know the 'oval' shape of the watch could be annoying regarding to ergonomics, so some tricks have to be found to manage the issue you are describing. I think a good work on the lower part in contact with the skin can be done (like chamfer style lines) to avoid a pinch between the watch and the small skin waves appearing when you bend your hand up.
But if we look closer this problem, sometimes it's because the watch is heavy and the fact there is some gap between the brace and your wrist, that the watch 'falls' thanks to gravity and hurts the back of our hand (I have a big Diesel watch and looking at my hand on the end of the day, there are lots of scratches on it ;) ... In addition to this, the setting axles are always striking the hand when there are in the direction of your arm, that's why I wanted them to be put backward the extreme line of the casing... Another option could be to put them in the direction of the brace.
For my brace I was thinking about some elastic material to maintain it on the wrist, but that's a compromise to find if we don't want to block the blood flow and let the skin 'breathe'.
Engineering a good watch is not that easy I think ;) That's why I only focused on the styling work even if I had a thought on all the parameters described here :)
P.S : Some color variations are in process ;) renders soon !
Last update : Color schemes. I made the 6 renders separately and then combined them in PS.
It's a wide file, I divide it by 3 for the forum. The high res is available on the grabcad page :)
And the last... all separate color renders :)
Love everyone Benjamin. These look fabulous!
I'm really happy to read this Josh :) thanks for your support !
no problem. Also, fun to scroll up and down through those color variations really fast. Wheeee!! :)
