Title: Opening .BIP files causing Keyshot to halt.
Post by: Despot on November 16, 2013, 11:03:18 AM
I am having terrible problems opening files in KeyShot - this only started to happen in 4.2, 4.1 and earlier versions were fine.

.BIPs that were created a while ago and also ones that are only a few days old sometimes refuse to open until the 3rd or 4th try - when they don't open, KeyShot hangs and I get the dialogue box telling me that it's not responding with a 'AppHangB1' error - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, no other application on my machine is acting up - I have the latest graphics drivers etc etc... it is driving me insane, to the point where I want to physically throw my computer out of a first floor window (not advisable)...

Then when files do open, they start to render in a really weird manner (it is really difficult to describe), like the whole geometry is semi opaque - also on opening, ground shadows are always turned off even when they are switched on in the Environment tab... un-checking and re-checking the ground shadows addresses this, the ground shadow appears and the render loses the opaque look and starts to render correctly

These problems occur when I use 32bit and 64Bit versions

For the first time ever I am thinking of downgrading to 4.1, but I don't want to because I will lose the huge max time/max samples speed increase 4.2 introduced.

Surely I'm not the only user experiencing these problems !!!

Hi John,

Sorry to read about the trouble you're experiencing. Would you be able to share a file with us? If so, please send the KSP file to support@luxion.com using this upload link: https://keyshot.wetransfer.com/

Thanks,
Chad

I have this same problem. I'm exporting .BIP files from Alibre/Geomagic and it seems I have to attempt to open the files multiple times to get them to load.

Sometimes I will just get a white screen and Keyshot will stop responding. Sometimes I will get the white screen and then a black screen. Sometimes the splash screen never disappears before it crashes. If I try the same file 4-5 times it WILL eventually open without any delay. I can open Keyshot itself without a .BIP file 100% of the time.

I saw on the forums someone mentioned that disabling graphics effects will stop the black screen, but it didn't help. I also disabled live linking, thinking maybe that was part of the problem, but it didn't help.

I am using version 4.2.35 and as with the original poster 4.1 works fine.

I have an Nvidia GTX 460 on this machine running the 331.65 drivers and am running Windows 7 64-bit.

I'm doing product renders up 100+ parts, so having to open the same file multiple times to get it to come up is really slowing me down.

Is this with the latest version of KeyShot? The GC certainly doesn't matter.
