this happens quite often in the current version (consistenly I should say) ... but in general 4.2 seems quite buggy compared to 4.1 or is it just me?

I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure if it was down to Mavericks OSx 10.9 ... Any attempt to tweak HDR maps (not tried EXR) causes KS to hang so badly it has to be forced to quit. Even general editing seems slooooow and lumpy. Render speed is definitely quicker, but the stuttering and HDR problems would prevent a purchase from here for now. Shame, but for me 3.33 was the more stable release.

I have having horrendous problems with 4.2... one of them is the software hanging when using KS's HDRI editor

4.1 was the last stable release in my opinion.

Can you try the latest beta posted on the forum? It should solve this issue.
