Title: Advice needed - Christmas gift ideas (+/- €100) for an industrial designer...
Post by: DriesV on December 01, 2013, 03:24:23 AM
Hi,

I'm racking my brain to find a great gift for a fellow industrial designer for Christmas.
Looking in the €100 (give or take) price range.

Do you guys have any original ideas?
Books, softwares, accessories, tools...?

Speaking of presents...
Here are some great suggestions of my own:

Light for Visual Artists: Understanding & Using Light in Art & Design (http://www.laurenceking.com/us/light-for-visual-artists-understanding-using-light-in-art-design-1/)
By Richard Yot
Fantastic hands-on book on the theory of light and how to apply lighting in (digital) images.

Color: A workshop for artists and designers 2nd edition (http://www.laurenceking.com/us/color-a-workshop-for-artists-and-designers/)
By David Hornung
Great book on color theory with lots of practical examples and exercises.

I think I'm going with this:
http://www.allegorithmic.com/products/bitmap2material (http://www.allegorithmic.com/products/bitmap2material)

This tool is crazy.
"Bitmap2Material is an incredibly powerful tool that helps you generate full, seamlessly tiling materials (normal map, height map, specular, etc.) from any bitmap image (usually a photo)."

$50 for a hobby license (Steam)
