Title: HDRIs and hard shadows
Post by: gionir on August 19, 2010, 11:28:08 PM
Hi everybody,
I am experimenting a bit with KS2 and in particular I am trying to render cars.

The biggest problem I am facing is that with some HDRIs the car would need a hard shadow below itself, this is the case of sunny environments.
Is there anyway to achieve this effect in KS or is switching to Photoshop the only way?

Thanks a lot for your time.

Gio

Hello
I want to ask the same question. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Try playing with the ground size.
It gives me (in my experience) an opportunity to make shadows more sharp (or edgy if you will). This occurs when you make the ground size very small. However, if you make it too small, it could cut away a part of the shadow.

Got the same situation here.
The shadows cast by the model are way softer than the ones in the original hdri.

I tried playing with the gamma & brightness settings and was able to increase somewhat the definition of the shadows but nowhere near the ones in the environment.

I realize this hasn't been posted in for a while but I too am rendering cars and have had trouble achieving the same hard shadows as in the HDRI environment.  Has anyone successfully been able to create decent hard shadows under their cars yet?
