Hi to everybody!
I'm starting to plan a new workstation....
Now i've a "very normal" ws: Xeon E3-1230V2,16gb of ram, twice SSD and a quadro4000.
I'l starting to plan my 2nd workstation....my budget is not very big.......i can't spend more than 1000€ on CPU so i've to choose between a Xeon E5-1660V2 and a Xeon E52650V2...
Which is better for Keyshot?
A 6 core cpu with high frequency or an 8 core cpu with lower frequency?
E5 1660 V2 http://ark.intel.com/products/75781/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-1660-v2-15M-Cache-3_70-GHz
E5 2650 V2 http://ark.intel.com/products/75269/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2650-v2-20M-Cache-2_60-GHz
...or eventually....this cpu (E5 1650V2) is quite cheap...http://ark.intel.com/products/75780/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-1650-v2-12M-Cache-3_50-GHz...what do you think?
Thanks in advance for the help :)
Actual performance depends on too many things, but there is a simple way to help you decide.
In the order you have them listed:
6 * 3.7 = 22.2
8 * 2.6 = 20.8
6 * 3.5 = 21.0
higher numbers are better, so I would go with the first one.
Of those options, I would pick E5-1650 V2.
E5-1660 V2 just doesn't make any sense. It is barely any faster than E5-1650 V2, but it is twice as expensive.
E5-2650 V2 doesn't make sense unless you go with two sockets.

Good catch Dries, I didn't even look at prices. :-[
Dries, Ruckus....First of all thanks a lot :)
Yes...the difference between these cpus is only a few speed frequency and about the L3 cache.....but 1650 cost an half of a 1660 :)
Do you think I'll see a lot of difference (improvement) with an E5 1650 V2 compared with my "little"E3 1230 V2?
Of course I'll change motherboard too....
sorry about my english :D
I think it will be about 50% faster.

thanks a lot for the info Dries :)
