Title: Using Sketch up to Keyshot
Post by: retromod on August 28, 2014, 09:07:39 PM
Hi,

I'm a beginner at Keyshot 5 and beginner/average at Sketch 8 up. I have a piece of furniture that Ive designed in Sketch up and then import it to Keyshot to do the rendering. When i choose a type of wood it changes the whole image to that particular wood. Lets say i have a table and want the legs in Oak and the table top in Walnut.

There is something that i am doing wrong in Sketch up and i thought it would be sorted if i made the legs a different group then the table top but this still doesn't work.

I am sure its a simple answer and I'm being pretty dimwitted....

Thanks in advance.

There are options when importing most file types to.

Group by Materials or Objects and to keep individual parts.

The other option is to give the groups in Sketch-up a different colour.

My advice for working with wood materials is to keep individual parts so you get better control of the texturing with direction of wood grain

At a basic level, just assign different random colors to surfaces requiring separate materials when rendering. no need to group, etc.

Of course, materials of sketchup groups with same color can be unliked in keyshot and then assigned different materials.
