Title: Solid Works live linking failing and crashing SW
Post by: scout144 on December 15, 2014, 05:15:05 PM
Hello,

I ran into a bit of a problem this evening I am running Windows 7 64 bit, SW 2014, Rhino 5 and Key shot 5.1 all up to date. I was having issues with live linking not working correctly and foolishly tried to fix it. I removed all old versions of Keyshot and plugins then re-installed everything; Keyshot and Plugins. now every time I try to render from SW it fails and SW crashes... Everything seems to be ok out of Rhino though... Would love some help so I can get back to work.

Thank you,

Ben

Open preferences and check what the "port range" is. It should be around 3141-3151. Make sure to "Save changes" in the preferences window (even if you didn't change anything). Hope this helps.

Chad,

I check and the settings are saved at 3141-3151 already, re-saved everything and still experiencing the same issues

Hey Ben,

Did you use a custom installation path for KeyShot or is it in the default location? (Computer>Local Disc C:>Program Files>KeyShot 5) Check the Plugins folder for SolidWorks and use the uninst.exe to remove the plugin and the SolidWorks Folder. With KS and SW closed reinstall the SolidWorks 3.4 plugin and make sure the installation path is correct. Restart your machine once complete. To make sure it is not the file that is causing the crash model a simple extrusion and use the plugin to send it to KS. Let me know how this works out.

Regards,
Rex

Hello Rex,

Thanks for the reply, I used the default install path. I followed the uninstall procedure and re-installed. Tried a simple extrusion and sent to KS, same issues arise KS starts up then Solid Works crashes and the geometry dose not make it through.

Ben,

I think we have identified the issue which will probably require an update to the plugin. I'll keep you posted.
