Title: How to separate parts?
Post by: IiroR on October 26, 2015, 12:38:52 AM
Hi! I'm fairly new to Keyshot. I just purchased this model http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-model-steam-train/697237 and now I'm trying to edit the different parts of it. But it doesn't show any different parts, only that this model is one part. I've tried unlinking the materials but no help. Is there a way to go around this?

What format is the model in ?
I assume OBJ, if so then you need to edit the mesh in something like Max, Modo, LightWave, Maya etc. If you don't have a polygon modelling app then try MeshLab or Blender. I have not used MeshLab other than for translating from one format to another so can't comment on its editing ability. Also, don't forget that the big boys in poly-modelling apps also do time limited trial versions.

In the soon to be released KeyShot 6, a new tool called "Geometry Editor" will let you select, separate or remap surfaces!!!
