Title: Disappointed
Post by: Clausj on November 14, 2015, 09:07:10 AM
I'm sure you'll all tell me I'm wrong but I'm genuinely disappointed all the goodies in V6 seems to be for the pro users. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the small improvements here and there but I recently read a comment here about how massive this upgrade is and how it will change the industry. I was looking forward to the material graph, it seems useful. I can understand that people might not need animation or network rendering and therefore it makes sense to keep those features in more expensive packages. However I don't understand why a feature that could bring the app ahead of the competition and make the material creation easier for everybody is restricted to people do animation and network rendering.

You got that all wrong ... Pro doesn't give you animation, nor network rendering ...  Both these things are an upgrade.

Actually, I think that animation is included in the Pro from now on. It is at least not under the Add-Ons section anymore: https://buy.keyshot.com/collections/add-ons

And the KeyShot Pro feature lists says ( https://buy.keyshot.com/products/keyshot-pro ):
- Camera animation
- Part and object animation
- Multiple turntable animation

If so, than I have a problem with that ... we recently (last month) purchased the animation plugin .................. no-one said anything.

Philippe,

Actually I do check my facts before posting. Animation is part of pro. Network rendering is part of Enterprise or available as addon.

Anyway, in your case you can still use your animation code with version 6 HD so don't worry.

I can afford upgrading to pro but I can't justify it because I honestly never need the features. And I don't mind paying 400 dollars for an upgrade even if it's just to keep the current feature set running. I'm just expressing a slight disappointment, that's all. I can understand if the developers want to push people to more expensive packages and I did not check the features before upgrading so thats my bad.

I had spoken to our sales rep around the time it was originally supposed to be released. He told me to hold off on purchasing the animation add-on because it would be included in the v.6 Pro release and to just upgrade after its release and get all the new features plus the add-on included. That was around August timeframe.

OMG, sucks to have a maintenance contract trough a different company and purchase stuff trough them ...  Now I don't know if they were told in Oktober (23rd)  to hold off .. or if they just chose not to tell me.

Also, it's weird now ... Pro version sais it includes object/camera/etc animation .. then one of the key features of the "Pro Floating" versions says "All of the KS Pro items" and "Keyshot Animation" .......................... ???

ME TOO! I am very disappointed by KeyShot 6 as Clausj already said the most amazing features are just for the pro version. The HD version costs $ 1k but these "cheap" users are  not worth to get good features ... and btw KeyShot 6 is still buggy and crashes just as often as version 5.
Not worth to upgrade from v5HD to v6HD for 400$. On the website its nearly impossible to find out that the most of the "revolutionary features" are only for the pro version!

I was combing through the new website last night (which, I think is great) and found it difficult, or impossible to find some information.

I think in order to sort out this confusion, a feature list (as is common with most software packages) should be available. I'm guessing that this hasn't been done because depending on which version of software you have, the cost to upgrade would vary. If that's the case, I'd recommend leaving price out of it and at the very least, just have a feature matrix so users can understand which version they need to suit their work.

I'm currently confused about what features I'll have access to on KeyShot HD (vs Pro) and for 2x the money, it would be nice to have some more clarity here.

So, not a complaint as much as it's a kind request for some feature comparison.

Well. Yes, this isn't updated yet, but I'm guessing they're just a tad behind. I feel a bit dumb because I missed this while looking for it last night. #facepalm

If you click on the Whats New Guide 'button' in the page header with the image behind it, it gives a PDF download of all the new features. Not sure when they added this, but sounds like it might be of help??
Heres the PDF download link: https://www.keyshot.com/?ddownload=329322 (https://www.keyshot.com/?ddownload=329322)

Hi everyone, thanks for the feedback. The product comparison was updated with the release, so it does include the features for each version, including the animation features for Pro.  We have put quite a bit into materials within KeyShot HD as well, including materials on labels, mappable roughness, occlusion procedural, new material presets... we also plan to include some advance materials in the future that will be available on KeyShot Cloud.

My upgrading decision was made after reading this user comment:

"I'm also a beta tester, and I must say that KeyShot 6 is such a massive upgrade that it's well worth the wait!  Seriously, it will change the future of high-end rendering forever!"

- which I realise now was probably based on testing the pro version.

Anyway, I'm surprised there is no cheaper upgrade path from HD+animation to Pro, still an 1100 dollar upgrade.
