Title: Circular translation
Post by: Kar on January 11, 2016, 06:18:08 AM
Hi all !

Is it possible to make circular translation animations on Keyshot ? I want a part to make a 360° circular translation around a pivot point (not a rotation !), but I can't find this function or any tip that would allow me to do this on Keyshot.

I have managed to simulate this circular movement by creating 4 translation movements for each X and Y axes, but the obtained movement isn't as smooth as I would want, and it takes too much time.

Do you know how could I achieve it ?

Thank you and have a nice day !

Here's how I did this.

1) duplicate the object and place both in an "assembly folder"
2) displace the duplicate to opposite the "circular translation center"
3) the rotation center of this assembly should be now where you want your circular translation to occure
4) hide the duplicate object
5) animate (rotation) your assembly

It's a silly work'round, but it does work.

Have you tried the following:

- Assign your rotation animation & pivot point, for example 360 degrees on Global Y axis.
- Assign second rotation animation, check "Dynamic Pivot Point", and set it to be inverse rotation (-360) around object center. This should offset the model rotating while it's orbiting. I've attached a BIP file & quick preview animation.

Does this help?

Hello !

Thanks to both of you for your useful answers, it works great for me now !  :)
