Title: Despot's Render Thread (additions: AMG Wheels, Lu Yu scan)
Post by: Despot on October 06, 2016, 01:05:21 PM
Been wanting to do this for a while - this is where I'll post my renders from now on, unless it's something specific which needs a thread of it's own.

With these first batch of images I've focused on lighting and texturing, using Area lights heavily, by themselves or sometimes with HDR's worked up in HDR Light Studio. Textures are from either Substance Designer, Poliigon or my own library.

Models from a variety of sources, either free, purchased or modeled by me - for instance, the hair on the rocking chair throw was done in Cinema 4D, then exported as geo.

Thanks for taking a peek - most of the renders are worth a look full size.

And sorry, lots of chairs, but they seem to be my favourite subject at the moment...

Oh... shoutout to Mr Oxholm for the dust label trick :)

Sure, but my machine is being re-imaged today, so it will be at the weekend. Don't expect too much though, it's pretty simple

John-

These are all just so fantastic! I think my particular fav is the Kresla chair. Amazing. The photographic level of realism and detail in your works is remarkable, and at times brings to mind Bertrand Benoit (that's meant as a very high compliment, by the way :) ). Thanks for sharing with us...

Cheers,
Eric

Hi John. The samsung speaker and the stool really blew my mind. The mood in both of them is really fantastic, specially in the stool image. It's great to see that you started adding dust and imperfections maps to your materials (it's kind of addicting to do this :P). Cheers !

This is super cool, John! Is the stone ground a displacement from C4D? Also, not to nit pick :), but the "US ARMY" label is sliced...was this intentional, or is the projection depth perhaps not quite high enough?

Cheers,
Eric

Thank you Eric, yes, the stone ground is a Substance Designer borne height map used as a displacement map in C4D, then baked and exported - and the cut-off label I already knew about would you believe, but I've been working on this off and on for months now, originally I was working on a similar model but then found this better one. Anyway, it was on my 'fix' list, but got overlooked, I'm slipping  ::)

Oh and you were correct about why it looked shit,  depth projection wasn't high enough ;)

Anyway, I've corrected and swapped the image.

Thanks very much Magnus, I really appreciate the comment :) it's also my favourite of recent stuff
