Title: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X -- 135FPS @3.5GHz -> 150FPS@3.9G
Post by: ohashi3d on March 04, 2017, 08:03:15 AM
I've just tested AMD's new CPU, Ryzen 7 1700X.
135FPS @3.5GHz, 8cores/16threads
Motherboard: BIOSTAR X370GT7
Memory: DDR4-3733 8GB x2 (Update: running DDR4-2133 setting in 135FPS@3.5GHz case)
Graphic: AMD Radeon PRO WX7100
OS: Windows10 Pro 64bit

Update: 150FPS@3.9GHz (and DDR4-2933 memory setting)

Is that with engineering sample chip or full retail ?

Hi, it's a full retail CPU, just released officially:)

Ryzen 1800x @3.6GHz (2133mhz) gives a pretty much the same result. Benchmark fluctuates between 131-141fps. With all memory slots filled memory speed is locked to 2133mhz on auto. Considering you only have one pair in, can you do a o couple of tests with different memory speeds at the same clock? It could be interesting as in games AMD benefits from memory overclock unlike Intel. I wonder, does this scale up to Keyshot app as well?

In any case, thanks for the effort so far.  1700x performs just as nice and cool.

My Asrock B350 Pro4 will be qat the dealer by Monday. I already purchased a G.Skill RipJaws PC4-2400 16Gx2 DDR4-3000 CL 14-14-14-34 1.35V kit. I chased this one before the price hike and what I have read so far, that it is better to always to have only pair for dual channel systems for overclocking and lower stress to the IMC compared to 4 memory sticks installed. However this time if I can avoid tinkering overclock settings and just have a good memory. My expectation that it works better  than my current on on a lower wattage cpu and cooler noise. I settle for the B350 chpset since I will only be running a single gpu.

There is also threads that a DDR4-3000 is an odd ball for Ryzen IMC and that a DD4-3200 works better because of dividers for the setting are logically handled better than DDR-3000. Certainly at this point I am clueless yet as my current system is an AM3 970 platform with 8Gx4 DDR3 1866 set at DDR1600 to run with the FX8370. The bottom line is that the new platform has better I/O compared to 970 which as it's draw back and nothing I can tweak any further.

I do want to get the 1700X but may take a while at the moment. But it seems the DDR4-3000 to match the 1700 and it will be clocked at 2933. Yes I like to have a higher single core IPC performance to improve IRONCAD 3D modeling and 2D drawing generation as well as rendering in back ground on KeyShot. See how it goes when it is set up.

Kyosen,
are you still happy with the 1700x system with regards to keyshot and general 3d modeling work? I use Rhino..
I have read that it is best to have the X370 motherboard which I see you also have, would you agree?
Is it very easy to use the Turbo (3.8Ghz) mode? (for a non geek person like me!)

With KeyShot 7, the 1700X now runs at 141.2 FPS.
