Title: Plexiglass
Post by: DeteZvezda on March 06, 2011, 07:46:20 AM
Hello.

I am trying to get the plexiglas material right. This is the best i can do, but its not accurate enough. I am using Solid Glass with IOR 2.38. Does anyone have a better material...

I suggest using the Gem or Dielectric materials. You want control over the Abbe number. The Abbe number gives you the dispersion that you see in plexiglass.

Use the following settings:

IOR - 1.5 - 1.51
Abbe - 34

Increase your raybounces in the realtime tab (12 should be enough), and turn on "detailed indirect illumination".

I found these numbers on the internet.

Hope this helps.

Increase your raybounces. It also depends on your lighting.

Change your light settings similar to your original.
The reflections of the blueish Background is what you see.

32 raybounces
detailed indirect illumination checked
default HDRI lighting
Ground shadows turned off
Gem material - IOR 1.51, Abbe 34

The dark reflections you see is from the reflection of the environment.

How's that?

Depending on the angle you view your model at, 32 ray bounces may not be enough to illuminate all the edges. Try outputting a render with the bounces set to 64.
