Here is a DIY home built CNC I designed in Alibre and rendered in KS.
I am still very new to rendering and trying to get the lights and textures all the way I want is more trial and guess than anything else.

Try increasing brightness of your environement ... that should improve it a lot.
Just keep playing around. You will have this come to life in no time.
