Title: Importing Custom Materials into Keyshot 7
Post by: MJDesign on August 04, 2017, 08:48:33 AM
Every time there is a new release, I spend 8 hours manually populating  my Materials and Textures, HDR's, etc, folders.
I did what was suggested last time, and exported them to desktop for Import into new platform – BUT ALL OF THE FOLDER HEIRARCHY IS LOST, rendering that virtually useless.

I am sincerely hoping this is addressed in the new release, or there is an action/workaround that I am not aware of that will solve this.

You are using the Export functionality from within the KeyShot Library, correct?
Unfortunately this does indeed flatten the hierarchy in KeyShot 6.

This is currently being addressed for KeyShot 7 and a later update will keep the folder structure when exporting.

We had a shared folder system on our network drive that both artists connected to in addition to the standard internal libraries. Anytime we developed an asset (HDR, material, etc) we saved it to the shared library. When we jsut upgraded to KS7,  We made a new folder for KS7 library so we didn't change the KS6 stuff, but in the finder just copied all the assets over, pointed KS7 to those folders making them the default and not read only in the preferences.

So, I didn't load or export anything from within keyshot, I did it all in the finder folder structures, then just added the folders in KS7 prefs and it is working great. \

Yes, Matt's suggestion is a great one.

You can find it here (https://luxion.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/K7M/pages/40212081/Folders+Preferences) in the manual.

One more thing, is that I didn't realize that in the preferences folder tab, there are certain items that can have more than one folder location like Environments, Materials, etc, whereas others only allow a single location , like Colors and Animations.

Having multiple locations for common assets like Environments and Materials is so fantastic.
