Title: alpha transparency in textures
Post by: e1two on September 30, 2017, 05:20:56 AM
Hi,

I was unable to reply on this thread (maybe it was closed)  :
https://www.keyshot.com/forum/index.php?topic=965.0;prev_next=next#new

so decided to start a new one, because I have a follow up question.  Would the
proposed emissive material/label solution work for all keyshot materials or
only with the plastic material.  I've tried it with glass and cloudy plastic and
haven't gotten that to link up to the label 1 field.

Am I missing a step or won't this work with certain materials?

Thanks for your help or suggestions !

This works with every solid material. It is not possible attached transparent materials like glass. Just do a quick test. Apply any texture as a label on a part. Look into the label tab and open the label material dropdown. Then you'll notice all useable materials.

Hope that helps
Cheers

Hi Marco,

Thanks for the reply and with your help I did find the material dropdown window.
I can see that work in some situations but in this case I'm really trying to get a
material alpha/transparency using the "cloudy plastic" material.

Here's a quick render of the scene I'm working on.  The character is a gummy
super hero and I want to composite the final render onto a different image using
the alpha channel.

Can anyone share a step by step approach (render or post) that would solve this problem?

Thanks ,

Iwan

Oh. That's a nice one!
I would try to render a separate picture with a diffuse material and a occlusion texture driving the colour. The occlusion should turn to the inner side.
And without a ground shadow you will get a perfect mask for the post.

(Sorry for the short form. It was written on a mobile device)

I'll need to reread your reply a couple of times to break it down into
steps I understand, but I'm pretty sure I can figure it out.  I will definitely
try it out and post back with the results or more questions :)

Thanks again for the help,

Iwan

Hi Marco,

I'm back on this task and having a bit of a problem setting up the render.
If your offer is still open, I would be very interested on getting any further info
to help me along.

Thanks again,

Iwan
