Title: Material & Backplate Questions
Post by: evanstuart on January 05, 2018, 01:38:40 PM
Hi all,

First time posting as I'm relatively new to Keyshot! I am in awe of the work by a very talented designer and am curious if anyone would know how to match the results of the attached renders. I am most interested in the "Speckled Plastic" look of the products and am curious about the possible set up or backplate that may have been used. Needless to say, I think the renders are simply superb and would love to be able to learn enough to achieve these myself, however, I think here is a better place to learn from than emailing him directly!

I am familiar with the material graph but not enough to create a similar material. Anyone mind showing me a possible/ similar material graph set up for such a speckled plastic look? Lastly, the backdrop. Is it more likely to be a "Vingnette" backplate of sorts or is it more complicated than that?

All work shown, belong to Dustin Lee and a link to his website can be found here - http://www.dustinlee.ca/

All the best, and thanks in advance

Sure.

You can achieve this speckled look using the procedural texture called 'spots' if you watch this webinar, you'll learn how to use that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6liInjrE48 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6liInjrE48)

As for the backplate, you can use a white/light gray background and then vignette, but the vignette will be in front of your product. To avoid this, use a backplate. Either make one yourself, or download one from our Cloud Library. Learn about that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYMROo2iSRQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYMROo2iSRQ)

Happy KeyShotting!
