Title: translucent / solid material
Post by: Mario Stockinger on March 04, 2018, 07:49:08 AM
Is it possible to create a material thats
translucent from one side and solid from the other ?

I render indoor images from production plants and it would be nice when the light could come from outside but inside the model the material (concrete) looks solid.

Hello Mario.
The material of your request is the ground material. It works this way.
But IMHO it is not the right solution to brighten an interior. Try to use an emissive plane or area light as the ceiling to push more light in.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Our maschines are made of stainless steel with a special surface  treatment.
When i use area lights i have a lot problems with hot pixels.
And its a lot work to add the area lights for each lvl....

maybe the attached file would help to improve your scene?!
I used the ground material for the walls and with some adjustments for the ceiling. (just play with the shadow color).
And you'll find an advanced material to use it for stainless steel with more control about the reflections and hot pixels.
(and I know - the big sphere look like a floating sphere)
