Title: render furniture [lighting advice]
Post by: zooropa on May 18, 2018, 12:30:27 PM
Hi. I am sharing a render that I am doing testing lighting for this particular shape.

Its not easy to enhance the shape. I am using planes and lights assigned as materials. I am planning to make a test with HDRI editor.

Please feel free to give your opinion. Not sure if I should avoid the shadow of the geometry close to the camera.
Any idea of advantages between plane lights or HDRI ?

Kind regards

I was under the impression HDRI computes lighting much faster compared to physical lights, i.e. light materials applied to geometry.

I struggled with lighting myself when I had to do a bunch of furniture rendering. My advice would be to stick with HDRI. You can always add walls and ceilings with gaps using planes to give it a dramatic look. There are some great examples of this on the forum. I had to change my environment based on the backplate I was given but I'll attach my settings if it would help.
