hello,
Why the vertical coordinate is - Y - in Keyshot?
thank you
Antoine
That's how it is.
ok,thanks Thomas.
As it is in SolidWorks, and I presume most CAD software.

mmhhhh...
in my CAD software, the vertical or deep coordinate is... Z
:)
and for the architecture software also.
maybe it is a particularity for this.
Antoine
Most mechanical engineering cad packages have Y as up. Most animation packages have Z as up. I started in Alias (which I do not consider to be an engineering cad package) and Z was up. This is logical for a package that began totally as animation tool as it reflects the 3D world we live in (x is longitude, y is latitude, and Z is altitude) . Mechanical packages used the convention of earlier drafting packages that were strictly 2D. So you would start your drafting that had x and Y coordinates. X was horizontal and Y was vertical. Z was considered going back into the screen. This legacy is carried through to 3D mechanical CAD packages; even PTC used this convention when they created Pro-Engineer (though at first they had no drawing creation).
very interresting! ;)
thanks
Antoine
