when you look at the other systems in this forum and the FPS they are getting and the $7000+ price tags and you can pick this up for $1800. crazy. once 7nm hits i bet we see even MORE cores.

I was just reading about this too. Insane. This I think is the gen that will finally see that insane CPU increase that everyone is looking for instead of these incremental increases. Looks like as long as you can keep the thing cool (250W TDP!!!!! )it should just hum along nicely. Man, My cloudy plastics would resolve so fast running 500fps.....

Keep cool? shiiiiiitttt. Basic AIO coolers are doing the job. The next 2-3 years are going to be interesting. We could see 64 core TR in 3 years. TR started the core wars.

As long as the software developers can keep up. I know video editors still aren't very efficient with multi-core machines and RED Digital Cinema just inked a deal with NVDIA on their new GPU's that are blowing away the GPU world in the same way TR is doing for CPU's. Decoding and playing back 8k video is getting to be real time thanks to their ability to split duties between the CPU and GPU efficiently. I know from past experience though that if your software version and GPU driver version weren't matched, dead in the water. The whole system is so fragile that way. There's a reason pixar and the other major render houses are still CPU based. Wonder what they think of all these new CPU wars? Imagine replacing 7500+ nodes with TR machines?

Wow that is insane!!! No wonder why AMD stock is flying! Does anyone know if there is going to be a dual processor board for this one?

Epyc is the dual proc version of the threadripper, the server market based chipsets and boards. Hard to find any legit info on them or if they are worth the coin. As far as I can find there are only 2 manufactures of the MB's, Supermicro and one other I can't recall. Might be more now, I haven't looked for a while. Different focus on those chips, not sure the core speeds will be able to keep up with TR Gen 2.

I don't think you will ever see dual TR. Epyc has much lower clocks. 32 cores should res up your image fast if not you can always OC and get that 6100 Cinebench Benchmark lol

My TR CPU stays cool (under 95c on serious stress tests) liquid-cooled with a 3-fan radiator Liqtech Enermax. At SIGGRAPH, a guy at the AMD booth was telling me there's a new one being developed specifically for use with TR2. So, I think it'll be fine.

Well, people are now doing over clocks with all in one coolers and getting 6k in Cinebench how ever the power is about 670 watts for the cpu. 2019 should see 7nm and its going to get even more insane as TR looks to be staying at 32 cores but the clocks are going to go close to 5ghz. 4.7 - 4.8ghz on all cores is going to be crazy with a power drop to about 220-225 watts from the 250 we see today. Then 5nm then 3nm strap your self in boys.
