Hi,
for our website I searched for a nice PCB image. Instead of buying a stock photo I decided to let KeyShot do the work. Unfortunately our PCB CAD software does not support 3D export. But I found some nice free PCB models here:
http://www.opalkelly.com/products/models/ (http://www.opalkelly.com/products/models/)
Then I assignes materials, created labels for almost all assembly parts (even for the small resistors) and finally setup camera and lightning and these are the results.

wow! Bravo!!!

That's a great render and use of DOF ukindler. The only thing I would do is experiment with the blue circuit board material to make it look more like semi-transparent fiberglass circuit board material. Maybe use a texture map photograph from a small piece of real board, or experiment with the Jade material in the translucent library, or try one of the plastic materials.
Ed
Very very nice renders indeed.
I agree on the blue pcb board material needs some work. My suggestion would be to just add some glosiness to it. Also try to have different color for the sides of the board.
Other than that ... great work !
Hi Ed and PhilippeV8,
thanks for your feedback. I will try to improve the PCB board material - the idea with the translucent material is great and also the hint to add some glosiness is good. I will definitive try this.
I will also try the idea with the board texture, but I think this will be more difficult because the circuit paths should match the positions of the PCB cicuits - but I will try.
Thank you and kind regards,
Uwe
Hi Ed and PhilippeV8,
attached there are two renderings with changed board material. I used a blue translucent material, added a PCB circuit texture and added some glosiness. I thing your hints where perfectly right. The only think I might need to improve is the color of the sides of the board.
Tank you again for the great hints.
Awesome work, Uwe!!
For all the rest of you - Uwe is a software programmer at his company!
Hey Thomas,
thank you - but I think this shows the power of KeyShot. It is so easy to use that even a software programmer can get out nice pictures from this awesome piece of software. ;).
So I think it was the right decision to give back our Bunkspreed Shot license after Hypershot disappeared and switch to KeyShot ;).
Exactly, Uwe!! It is no longer about how well you master the tool, but how creative you are, and how much of an "eye" you have. It is about photography not rendering anymore.
And yes, it was the right decision! ;-)
Love the board! That looks really good ;)
awesome Uwe. the board material a color looks hot! Great choice!
Very nice!
I've been toying with the notion of adding rendered boards to some of the more complex assemblies I work on... but the detail here is very impressive.
:o. Holy Christmas! I've never seen a circuit board look so good! that's just phenomenal.
Hi,
thanks for all the great feedback. If you want to try it for yourself to render a cool PCB image - I packaged a ZIP file that contains the BIP file and all textures. You can download it for free and can use it without any restrictions:

tres sympa!!, merci!!

Fantastic! Thank you Uwe. I do enclosures often enough that those textures and settings would be very helpful.
Hi Uwe! I just featured your PCB renderings on the blog! Thanks for providing all the files! http://blog.keyshot.com/printed-circuit-boards-in-keyshot-plus-free-bip-files-textures-and-pcb-models/
This is some of the best boards I have seen. Top notch stuff for sure.
Thanks a lot for the KeyShot Package of this. You bet I will be messing with this.
It's a BIG Keeper !!!!!!
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
I'm not worthy ;)
Tim
awesome!
Better than real ;D
Welldone
superbe! :)
Really great renderings !
