Title: Translucent turning black when fading - bug?
Post by: Southways on September 09, 2019, 12:24:19 AM
I have a material that is Translucent (attached) that turns black as soon as I attempt to fade it in an animation.
I am not sure if this is something I am doing wrong, or it is a bug.
I would be grateful if someone could review/test & advise.
Thanks in advance.

I solved this with a color animation node in the material graph. For details see attached example scene.
But if you aren't specifically looking for subsurface scattering, an advanced material type with the orange in the transmission channels and a transmission roughness of 1 will look identically - and works fine with the fade animation - and will render faster.

Cheers

Excellent - That worked perfectly.
Thanks so much - especially for the example. I really appreciate it.

(BTW, is there a simple explanation why the "fade" method fails?).

you're welcome - glad, that it works!

The explanation on the technical side is part by Luxion. Maybe the support can post an answer?!? It might be something in the shader?!
The best way is that you as a user write a short email to support@luxion.com and refer to this post. So that if it is a bug, they can fix this for a future release.
And it helps more that you as a user write this mail, instead of me as a consultant of one of Luxion's reseller/partner. So Luxion can ask questions directly.

cheers
